Why Should I join AMILA? What does $40 a year get me? Your contributions to AMILA go a long way towards helping us provide the services that our group expects from us. The money you pay helps bring in talented speakers from across the country to speak at our meetings, produce events such as our annual Ramadan Spiritual Retreat, pay for our bimontly newsletters (we send them out to over 100 people) and complimentary phone books, and fund projects such as the Eid for Everyone Toy Drive. All funds are distributed by the Steering Committee, which chooses which projects to fund at their monthly open meetings. All in all, it's a good value. And remember, nobody is ever turned away from AMILA activities for lack of funds. AMILA Multimedia Library One of the perks of membership is the ability to borrow selections from the AMILA Library. Built through the generous contributions of our membership, the Library includes books, videotapes, and audiotapes of some of our more interesting lectures. Take advantage of this valuable resource by clicking here and perusing our catalog. Please note: only Bay Area residents can borrow materials from the Library. Our events are shaped by you Every project that AMILA has organized was originally conceived by one or two members who pitched the idea to AMILA in order to recruit volunteers and resources. Since our projects are member-driven, it is important that you actively participate in them and feel free to suggest new and interesting projects that can fill a need in the Muslim community. Community service projects have included working regularly at the Loaves & Fishes soup kitchen in San Jose, visiting Muslims in prison, participating in the South Bay Islamic Association's Family Night, creating of domestic violence and human rights task forces, tutoring sessions for Muslim children, and much more. Bring your ideas to our membership and make a difference! Office of the Ombudsperson Ever since our founding, we have felt that it is important to actively look out for the welfare of our members. Whether it is a personal problem, an unfulfilled need, or someone who is new to AMILA and wants to make friends, the presence of an Ombudsman and Ombudswoman is an important reason why AMILA is so strong a group. Click here to find out who your Ombudspeople are, and feel free to utilize their services. Interested in joining? Anyone can participate in AMILA meetings, activities, and study groups. But, membership in AMILA - annual dues of $40 and regular attendance at meetings - is what keeps us going. Your membership dues enable us to bring sophisticated speakers to our events, and subsidize our major projects and administrative costs. You can join AMILA through our online registration form below, or click here to find out about our next monthly meeting and join in person. AMILA Online Membership Form By becoming an AMILA member you can get our regular newsletter informing you of important AMILA and community events. Also, your dues help AMILA bring you the best speakers and events and allows AMILA to more effectively help your Muslim community. If you live outside the San Francisco Bay Area, you may join, but you won't be able to take advantage of the things that your $40 will pay for. Even if you don't join, you can freely participate in AMILAnet and our other online services available here.
