Saturday, February 14 at 4:00 SHARP: AMILA is pleased to invite you to an afternoon with Imam Zaid Shakir. Inshallah, this will be a wonderfully opportunity to meet and talk with our esteemed guest in an informal and intimate setting. Imam Zaid is on the faculty at Zaytuna Institute, where he is currently teaching courses on Shafi`i fiqh and on Muslim exemplars. Born in Berkeley, Imam Zaid served in the US Air Force in 1976, and accepted Islam in 1977. He holds a BA in International Relations from American University, DC, and an MA in Political Science from Rutgers University, and taught Political Science for many years at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, where he also served as the Imam of Masjid al-Islam. Imam Zaid has also studied the traditional Islamic sciences in Arabic and Morocco. He also lectures on issues related to African Americans and has appeared on national television for Lou Gosset, Jr.'s "The Story of a People," as well as being interviewed on BBC. |
